Arctostaphylos nevadensis
Pinemat manzanita is a flat, ground-hugging mat of an evergreen shrub from western mountain forests, rooting as it creeps over rock and sand. A hardy, deer-resistant alpine groundcover. Like other manzanitas, the tart fruit is eaten fresh, dried, or made into a cooling drink; the seed has been ground into a soup thickener.
