Yerba mansa is a Southwestern wetland groundcover with cone-shaped flower heads ringed by white bracts, spreading by runners over wet, even alkaline, ground. Aromatic and traditionally medicinal. The aromatic, peppery root has been eaten and its pulverized seeds cooked into a mush or bread — though it's more often used medicinally, chewed raw as an astringent.
